FEBRUARY
My first day in Liverpool Community College. I started off at Bankfield
Centre, where I was enrolled onto various IT courses. At that stage I knew very little about IT , but was supported
and encouraged by the tutors, especially Chris Witherington, who took her time to teach me the basics.
April
I applied for and got a National Insurance number- which everyone must have in
order to live and work here, and to have access to the health services.
JUNE
Finished my first IT course - ECDL
I got a part-time job in Royal Liverpool Hospital, where I work for 20hrs a week,
Mondays to Fridays.
We went to see a free festival of African music in Sefton park, just near where I live. It's
known as 'Africa Oye' .
We went to Edinburgh for a day to take part in a 'Make Poverty History' demonstration.
There were people marching as far as the eye could see.

AUGUST
I went for my first holidays in UK. We went together with Nina to the South of England and
celebrated Nina's birthday in Cornwall at Lands End. I fell asleep on the beach in the sun while Nina went for a walk
along the cliffs, and we had the best fish and chips I've ever had !
September
The college approved my bursary for another year. That gave me a chance to enroll in the Advanced
Diploma for IT Practitioners - this time at the Clarence Street Centre.
December 2005
I went to home to Nigeria for three weeks. I saw a lot of changes when I first arrived in
the country. I really enjoyed seeing my family especially my kids. We went to Kano and watched a durba Sallah festival
which was nice. I was able to go and see my old friends in GC Toro especially Francis Dutse, Hardo and Isah Mohammed.
